How does the New Orleans episode of Street Food: USA show that food represents more than just something people eat? Explain how at least one food from the episode reflects culture, identity, or community.

Snowballs reflect culture and community because they are a long standing tradition in New Orleans, especially during hot summers and p laces that sell snowballs often become neighborhood gathering spots where people of all ages come together, talk, and cool off.

Today, we continued our discussion about culture and food. What is one dish from your culture that is a must-have as a representation of your culture? Identify the dish and explain what it is and why it is significant.

I choose Tamales and are significant because they represent tradition, family, and celebration in Mexican culture. They are often made during holidays such as Christmas, where families come together to prepare large batches. This makes tamales more than just food as they symbolize unity and hard work.

Food is often tied to memory and emotion. Describe a meaningful memory connected to a meal or dish. Analyze how that experience shaped your understanding of family, culture, or belonging.

I never had a connecting moment with food just I see it as a valuable part in people's lives and I don't like wasting food as the one who cooked poured their time in making it and it would hurt that person if they ever saw their food being treated like that so I really see food as a treasure not to be wasted but enjoyed no matter what or where it came from.

Prompt: How did the writing process (brainstorming, drafting, revising, proofreading, and finalizing) shape the strength of the final essay, and what was learned about your personal strengths and areas for growth as a writer?

Brainstorming helped with what ideas to use on the essay that helped with the prompt I chose to work on, drafting helped with me getting to know what I'm getting myself into, and proofreading/ finalizing since the essay was done on writable, any errors were highlighted such as commas and word errors. Overall all these steps helped when writing the final essay and I didn't ;et myself doze off and thinking of something else while writing the essay just the essay itself was the only thing I was focused on during that time.

Why is drafting an essential step in the writing process rather than going straight to a final version? Use your own experience from this essay to explain how drafting improved (or revealed weaknesses in) your thinking.

Starting with a draft can help with knowing what you are working with before going in and starting your essay before actually working on it in class. It lets you know how you will start your essay, the flow of it and help you be confident once that time comes to write the essay. Then on the day of it you know what you're writing which will give you a headstart and type/write confidently to finish the essay.

Reflect on your writing process for essays. Which part of writing an essay do you struggle with the most (for example: developing a thesis, organizing ideas, finding strong evidence, writing introductions, or explaining your analysis)? Which parts of essay writing do you feel most confident about? Explain why you feel strong in those areas and what specifically makes the challenging part difficult for you. Include at least one goal for how you plan to improve your essay writing skills.

When writing an essay, the most difficult part is  collecting strong evidence , as finding the perfect quotes to support an argument can be consuming and tedious But I feel most confident in developing a thesis and organizing ideas , I enjoy the  challenge of structuring a essay starter.

After completing the assignments on making college affordable and finding the best college fit, what is one thing you learned that you did not know before? Why do you think this information is important for seniors to understand?

A thing I didn’t know before was how some students would prefer to go to small colleges rather than big colleges due to multiple reasons some are that they want to be more involved in their small classes and with the teacher in order better ask questions to the teacher and work better with other students without being overwhelmed with how many students are there.

Reflect on the simile and metaphor worksheet. Which topic challenged you the most when creating your figurative language, and why? In your response, explain what made that topic difficult and how you worked through the challenge (or what you might do differently next time).

the simile and metaphor sections were challenging because creating six of each took time and a lot of thought. It wasn’t hard, but it did push me to be more creative and not repeat the same ideas for each. The hardest part was making each one feel different while still clearly connecting to the topic while also making it sound creative like something not heard before.

Today you created similes and metaphors that reflect your struggles, growth, and resilience. In a well-developed paragraph, reflect on the process. What did you learn about yourself while writing your figurative language?

While writing my similes and metaphors, I learned that I’ve grown more than I realized. I understand metaphors and similes and how make and recognize them if being told to find one during a Poem or reading. Just by recognizing key factors to know if it’s a metaphor or simile I can quickly recognize them.

Describe how you spent your time, any activities, traditions, travel, hobbies, or moments that stood out to you. You may also discuss something new you tried, something you learned, or how the break helped you reset before returning to school. Keep your response appropriate for a school setting and focus on experiences you are comfortable sharing publicly

Over the break, I spent most of my time relaxing and resetting after a busy school stretch. I started my mornings without rushing, which helped me feel more organized and less stressed. One of the main things I did was spend more time with my family and we watched movies together, cooked a few meals at home, and talked more than we usually do during the school week.
